What Cannot be cooked in a slow cooker?
Although you can cook most things in a slow cooker, there are a few things best left out. Dairy products can end up separating after long, slow cooking. Soft veggies don’t well either because long cooking renders them into a mush which is not appealing in a meal. Although potentially perfect for a soup!
Can I cook soup in slow cooker overnight?
Yes. You can cook soup in a slow cooker overnight. Do your meal prep in the evening and add everything to the slow cooker before turning it on low. Overnight is potentially 8-12 hours of cooking so a full crockpot, a low heat and enough liquid (but not too much) is essential to produce a tasty meal.
Can you put raw ingredients in a slow cooker?
Yes you can put raw ingredients in a slow cooker even though some ‘experts’ say you shouldn’t. Meat can be put in raw but it won’t have the same look as meat that is browned first. Sausages can be but while fully cooked they look pale and perhaps not as appertising as those browned under a grill.
Can you overcook soup in a slow cooker?
You certainly can overcook soup in a slow cooker. If you have pasta or soft veggies in your soup they can turn into a soggy mess when cooked for too long. But most slow cooker soup recipes are designed for very long cooking. So these recipes are safe for hours of cooking even if longer than you originally intended.
